I’d like to welcome Laura Kaye, author of One Night With A Hero, to Love To Read For Fun.
Hi Laura! Thanks for stopping by.
Tell us a little about your book, One Night With A Hero
I’d love to! And thanks for having me here today to kick off the start of my blog tour! One Night with a Hero is the second in my Hero Series and is about two emotionally damaged people who think they’re unworthy of love finding it when they least expected it. Here’s the blurb:
He wants just one night…
After growing up with an abusive, alcoholic father, Army Special Forces Sgt. Brady Scott vowed never to marry or have kids. Sent stateside to get his head on straight—and his anger in check—Brady’s looking for a distraction. He finds it in his beautiful new neighbor’s one-night-only offer for hot sex, but her ability to make him forget is addictive. Suddenly, Brady’s not so sure he can stay away.
…what they need is each other.
Orphaned as a child, community center director Joss Daniels swore she’d never put herself in a position to be left behind again, but she can’t deny herself one sizzling night with the sexy soldier who makes her laugh and kisses her senseless. When Joss discovers she’s pregnant, Brady’s rejection leaves her feeling abandoned. Now, they must overcome their fears before they lose the love and security they’ve found in each other, but can they let go of the past to create a future together?
What was your inspiration for the Hero series?
Marco Vieri, the hero from the first book, Her Forbidden Hero, was truly the inspiration for the series. I’d been seeing images of this badly damaged man in my head for a while. I knew he was injured on the inside and the out, and I usually saw him in shadows. Finally, he came together sitting in the dark struggling to play the guitar. Getting to know Marco’s character snowballed into the stories of both of these books. Plus I just plain love military heroes!
How many books do you have planned for this series?
I thought it was just going to be these two, but now I’m not sure! *grins*
I love the new cover for Her Forbidden Hero. What are your thoughts on the new covers for the series?
I love, love, love these covers! I think they’re sexy and sensual and emotional. Totally adore them! Plus I think both cover offers a really good reflection of the way I see the hero in my head, so that’s fun, too!
You can only pick 3 words to describe Brady and Joss, what would they be?
Brady: passionate, protective, loyal
Joss: courageous, loving, adventurous
I live in Northern VA and love that the series takes place in the DMV. Does it make it easier to write when the setting is a place that you’re familiar with?
I definitely think it’s easier to write what you know. I also think it adds a layer of authenticity when you set a story in a place with which you’re familiar because you can add in all those little details locals would recognize. I lived in the Fairlington neighborhood in which I had Joss and Brady live for a number of years.
Did you have to do any extensive research about the military before writing this series?
I did a lot of research before I wrote Marco’s book on everything from the training for Army Special Forces, to the divisions and where they serve, to the structure of the A-teams. I also did a lot of research on the types of injuries one would have to sustain to be medically discharged. For Brady’s book, I needed to do additional research on uniforms and terms of service, since Brady was still active duty where Marco was not. I wanted to get the details right!
What do you love most about writing?
I love the process of discovery that writing is. I don’t tend to outline my books before I start writing, so my writing process is much like what the reader experiences when they read a book for the first time. What happens often surprises me, and it’s such a wild journey!
What are you currently working on?
I am currently writing South of Surrender, the third book in my Greek-mythology-inspired Hearts of the Anemoi series. The hero, Chrysander, is funny and sarcastic and hot hot hot!
Thanks Laura!
I definitely recommend reading Hero series. The books are emotional and humorous and hot, hot, hot!!
